I came here with my boyfriend for dinner and we got seated very fast. Our server Brendon, I believe was amazing. Asked how our night was going, took our order quickly. The customer service was just great and I enjoyed my dinner here. The food came quickly, but I wish it all came together. Nonetheless, five stars on everything.
PS: Save room for dessert when you come here, their honey toast is a must! -

Friend had received 20% off coupon via email from Star-Advertiser, so we went. We ate: MOCHI CHEESE GRATIN $7 (Mochi cubes blanketed with mozzarella, light soy dashi broth, baked & topped with green onion & nori); LOBSTER DYNAMITE ROLL $16 (California roll topped with rich and creamy lobster); HOMEMADE TOFU SALAD $12 (Homemade tofu, creamy sesame dressing, crispy wontons, nori, mixed greens); HONEY TOAST™ $9 (The specialty of the house. Thick Japanese white toast, cut out and cubed. Drizzled with honey and topped with vanilla ice cream) to which we added a scoop of red bean paste for an extra $2.
The fresh tofu salad was huge and delicious, this was my favorite. The lobster dynamite roll was pretty good but very sweet; don't think I'd order that again. We scraped the plate on the mochi cheese gratin which was basically a salty cheese melt with a little firmness from the mochi. The honey toast was HUGE and would serve 4 people, really. I had half and couldn't finish it; it's a lot of bread. You can customize it with different flavors of ice cream and toppings for extra cost. The red bean paste we added was just a scoop on the side and I wouldn't do that again.
Service was excellent; we were seated in an odd L-shaped 2 person booth. I actually enjoy sitting next to someone rather than across so it worked.
My negatives are that it's gotten a bit shabby; chairs were scuffed and ripped on the corners, floor worn, and the menus were downright heinous with the lamination peeling up. So I am deducting a star for that. Seating area on the right side is a bit more glamorous with the hanging lanterns; I would have preferred being over there.
Finally the waiter informed us that the coupon was only good with $50 purchase and we were at $48; my friend added on another lobster dynamite roll "to go" for her husband (which he loved).
Menu advertises a late night "all you can eat" for $28 per person which might be fun to try; as I recall it starts at 10 or 11 PM. -

Geh. Shokudo is done guys. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is out of respect for what they used to be..
Went there for a buddy's going away dinner last night & it just wasn't a good experience. The AC was broken, the menus are peeling back and sticky, there was lettuce smushed all over the floor & that was all just first impressions in 30 seconds.
I've felt it was slipping for the last few years but hadn't gone enough to confirm it. Last night confirmed it. It used to be a great place for paying for high quality food and leaving full. Now - I don't think a single adult could leave full without spending $45-$55 (with a drink and tip).
The portions have gotten significantly smaller over the years. Still 8 pieces on the dynamite lobster roll but the rolls are about the size of a quarter and it used to be oooozing with dynamite sauce and lobster. Now it looks like a kids meal off a precisely measured conveyor belt. Did I mention the AC was broke?
This is the worst part of all & what tipped my hat to their initial decline a couple years back..the epic HONEY TOAST..the famous menu item seen around the world..doesn't even come with barely any honey any more. It's dry. One person at our table ordered it and caught slack from the rest of us as he sat there eating the dry honey toast and had to tell us, "I just really wanted the ice cream." Yea okay. Dry honey toast? Pour it up Shokudo.
Super bummed. It's a skeleton of what it used to be when I was in college. Now it seems like they're trying to "act" like Shokudo.

Haven't been here in about 5 years! The honey toast is still as amazing as ever. I had a random thought about it and had to have it!
Today I ate the oyster appetizer, the lunch special bento, the beef tataki, thee ever so delicious lobster dynamite roll & ended with a yummy vanilla honey toast. Everything was delicious and the lunch special bento is a really good deal. I got tempura & chicken karaage with miso soup, salad & edamame for 13$. Definitely go here for lunch if you're in the area. Pono was our server and he definitely lives up to his name! Also Erin another server there was excellent. They have a very great team there during lunch. Everyone seemed very happy to do their job. I also noticed that they do an all you can eat option for dinner. I'm gonna need to come back and try it out! Thank you for exciting my taste buds after a 5 year hiatus, see ya soon Shokudo! -

My first time here while celebrating a gf's birthday and we enjoyed several dishes. Lobster roll, Ahi slices, bibimbap rice bowl, and their amazing ice cream honey toast dessert was DIVINE!! Very spacious dining area, easy parking adjacent to the ala Moana mall, strawberry sake, and great friendly staff here! We enjoyed every part of our dining experience and feasted in delicious plates! We would definitely visit again! Restrooms were clean and well stocked, staff were quick to take orders, deliver food, checking on us, and always friendly despite the busy-ness.
There's an after dark menu that happens on weekends only and after 10pm until 2am. Great place to meet in groups and enjoy company over some great food!
